Best New Mobile Phones of 2010

Tech Blog - Where would we be without our mobile phones? A recent study of mobile phone users found that more people in the UK would rather have their wallet or purse stolen than their mobile phone. This is mainly due to all the everyday necessities they now seem to have lurking inside their printed circuit boards and solid state disk drives. It is now easier and cheaper to cancel a bank card than it is to replace a mobile phone, with its wealth of contacts and personal or business information now stored within its slender confines. We are all now learning that there is more to mobile phones than making calls.

Gone are the days a mobile phone required its own briefcase to store the battery and text messaging was a distant dream. Today the best mobile phones are judged on their OS (Operating System) Camera, functionality, ease of use and looks.

So, for this article, I have split the competition into the different operating systems they use and picked the cream of the crop.

Blackberry Torch
Research in Motion (RIM) are relative newcomers in the smartphone market and made their name instead by producing the best phones a busy, international business person could buy. Now however, they are hitting the majority of phone users needs for social networking, media streaming, internet use and ergonomics.

The Blackberry Torch is the latest offering from RIM which boasts a large touch screen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard, the best blackberry camera yet seen on their range, more customisable options and has been designed specifically for social networking.

Samsung Omnia 7
Samsung has a good track record for making reliable, no nonsense phones, which sell well. Their new Omnia 7 smartphone runs Windows Phone 7, the new mobile phone OS from Microsoft. Windows Phone 7 makes use of ‘Live Tiles’ which are the hub to everything you need on the phone. Whether that is social networking, media or internet, the tiles keep you up to date quickly without the need to constantly update the screen. The Windows Phone 7 OS is designed for people on the move who require information as fast as possible.

Out of all the current WP7 phones I have singled out the Samsung Omnia 7 as the phone of choice because it has the best screen, which makes the WP7 interface, with its reliance on deep black, look gorgeous. It runs the OS well and has all the functionality one needs to keep up in the fast paced mobile phone scene.

I obviously couldn’t finish this article without mentioning the iPhone4 from Apple. Apple is somewhat of an international electronics engineering phenomenon. Let’s face it, unless you’ve been living as a hermit for the past eight years or so you will have heard of an iPod or an iMac.

The iPhone4 is Apple’s next generation of the hugely successful iPhone series. These mobile phones are the must have for many groups of people from the fashion conscious to the business person. The iPhone4 is literally an update of the technology to the previous generations of phone and includes engineered glass, so the phone is strong and looks beautiful, ‘Retina Display’ which is a super high resolution screen, Multi touch display which makes the phone easy to navigate and use, 5mp camera, internet and all the common new additions we have come to expect from our phones.

In Closing
There are hundreds of phones on the market and by the time this is written I’m sure another hundred or so will have been projected for the future, each has its merits and it is really down to the consumer as to which they prefer rather than one being better than another. Choosing one of the phones mentioned will definitely keep you connected to family, friends and business, even if you only actually use 10% of its functions.
Now, how do I call someone on this thing?

A Basic Laptop Buying Guide

Tech Blog - Searching for the best and most cost-efficient laptop can be simple once you know what to look for. Before choosing a laptop, consider what purpose the computer will serve. A computer should fit the needs of each user. Personally tailored details include the physical design of the computer as well as technical aspects.

If you're purchasing a laptop for casual use, you can keep it simple. Laptops that are used for personal entertainment don’t need much RAM or hard drive space. You may want one that has a big screen and comfortable key placement. A speedy processor is important for casual use, because it allows you to quickly browse the internet, download music, or tend to personal tasks such as bill paying or managing online accounts. Casual use may also consist of watching movies or listening to music, so a DVD or CD reader is recommended. An Acer laptop is ideal for the casual user.

Laptops with high-functioning graphics cards are the best choices if you are a gamer. A suitable card will generate enough power to work well with the bright colors and rapid movement of video games. A laptop that is used for games should have at least a fifteen inch screen. Look for a laptop with a powerful, long lasting battery because video games rapidly drain the energy of a computer.

If you plan to use a laptop for educational or business purposes, consider purchasing one that has a larger memory. A laptop that is less than ten inches is perfect for students because it is easy to transport. However, smaller varieties have less internal space, so they may only be used for basic tasks like word processing or research. For business purposes, a bigger laptop will allow for more complex tasks. An Acer laptop that is lightweight and portable may be the optimum choice if you are a student or business person.

With so many laptops on the market, you can easily find one that will match your tastes and needs. Determining what purpose a laptop will serve is the best way to begin your search.

Buffalo LinkStation Mini - LS-WSXL/R1

Tech Blog - Network Attached Storage drives (or NAS) are just about one of the most important devices these days in anyone’s computing arsenal. NAS solutions provide you with a convenient way of taking backup of your critical data in event of any PC problems, NAS allows you to backup or store data from any computer on the network that the NAS is attached to.

There are many NAS suppliers, but Buffalo has been in the business of making NAS devices for a long time now and it produces some of the best products in the industry. Below is a short review of the Buffalo’s dual drive LinkStation Mini network attached storage.

The Buffalo LinkStation Mini offers two 2.5” hard drives and is the smallest NAS on the market, supporting RAID 0 and RAID 1. This gives users the choice between maximum capacity and performance or maximum redundancy and reliability. This particular model is currently available (as of September 2010) in 3 different sizes, as 250GB, 500GB and as a 1TB external hard drive.

The fanless design ensures silent operation and it also features gigabit Ethernet connectivity for fast and reliable data storage. The Buffalo Linkstation Mini is probably one of the most reliable and smallest available in the market today, so if you’re looking for a convenient way of taking backup of your data or just simply looking for convenient way of storing and sharing data over the network this is probably one of the most viable solutions for you.

What is so amazing about the Buffalo Linkstation Mini is the fact that it will stream videos across a home network to any DLNA-enabled media receiver, like the PS3. This enables you to watch HD movies stored on your NAS in amazing quality on your TV. This was the icing on the cake for me.

Nokia 5230 | Phone Review

Tech Blog - The Nokia 5230 is good looking and easy to navigate. It has a large 3.2 inch screen, which although slightly smaller than the iPhone comes with a higher resolution of 640 by 360 pixels. The touch screen is resistive and therefore not oversensitive, and also comes with a useful stylus. You can take photos on the 5230, but as the camera is only 2 megapixels it is best suited for quick snaps.

In terms of internet and connectivity features, this Symbian S6O smart phone comes with 3G but no Wi Fi, although it also has Bluetooth and USB connectivity. It’s high speed HSDPA means that the 5230 boasts download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps. One interesting feature is the built in A-GPS receiver, which also comes with Ovi Maps supplied. The phone has built in access to the Ovi Store for downloading any other apps you may want.

This phone has a substantial amount of storage, with 70MB of memory initially that can be expanded to anything up to 16GB with the addition of a microSD card, although this will have to be bought separately. Although it is quite a chunky, heavy model compared to some of the lighter models on the market, the extra weight can be attributed to the bigger battery, meaning the 5230 comes with excellent battery life.

The Nokia 5230 comes in black and white. The sleek white version can be obtained for free at the Dial A Phone website.

LG Pop GD510 | News and Reviews

Tech Blog - Have a recently released their all new smartphone, the LG Pop GD510, a touchscreen device that demonstrates how handsets can be loaded with features, yet still retain a sleek and lightweight aesthetic. The phone is essentially following on from the highly successful LG Cookie, another fairly cheap yet stylish looking smartphone from the people at LG, and the new POP model will be hoping to emulate the 7 million ‘Cookies’ that LG managed to sell. They’ve given themselves every chance of doing so however, with the POP GD510 avoiding most of the bloated specifications of many smartphones, and dealing with just the essentials – just the features and apps that their customers want.

LG are all about satisfying customer needs. So, the excellent LG POP is giving owners of the ‘Cookie’, and indeed new customers, the best of both worlds. They’ll get an extremely easy to use smartphone, with a touchscreen display, but they’ll also get a classy and sleek device that’s fun to use. Also, they’ll get a handset that’s much cheaper than the top-end alternatives on the market, despite little difference in features of specifications.

The front of the LG Pop is dominated by a 3” WQVGA touchscreen, which is phenomenally responsive, and allows users to navigate to any application on the phone instantly. There’s also a 3 megapixel camera on the back of the handset, and any images taken can be easily edited with LG’s specialist application.

For the music types, LG have added an MP3 player to the POP, so that users can enjoy their favourite albums or playlists on the move, either by plugging in headphones, or listening to the tunes through the high quality integrated speakers. As expected, the manufacturer has, this time, placed much emphasis on multimedia playback (as many smartphone manufacturers are beginning to do), and there’s evidence of this in the video player and video camera in the POP. Users can enjoy movies, trailers, and web content in the dedicated player, and they can also shoot their very own home movies!

Find out all of the best deals on the LG Pop at Phones 4u today and find the best package for you.

Tech Blog - I don't usually blog about websites or manga, but this one is very close to my geek heart since it has entertained me in a lot of late night work and boring days, the website is the site is virtually a treasure trove of scanlation of manga, if it manga has been scanlated you will find it there, anyway yesterday they announce that the site will have too close, as quoted below :(

"There is an end to everything, to good things as well."

It pains me to announce that this is the last week of manga reading on One Manga (!!). Manga publishers have recently changed their stance on manga scanlations and made it clear that they no longer approve of it. We have decided to abide by their wishes, and remove all manga content (regardless of licensing status) from the site. The removal of content will happen gradually (so you can at least finish some of the outstanding reading you have), but we expect all content to be gone by early next week (RIP OM July 2010).

So what next? We're not really sure at this point, but we have some ideas we would like to try out. Until then, the One Manga forums will remain active and we encourage all of you to continue using them. OMF has developed into a great community and it would be a shame to see that disappear.

You can also show us some love in this moment of sadness by 'liking' our brand new Facebook page. It would be nice to see just how many of you came to enjoy our 'better than peanut butter and jelly' invention.

Regardless of whether you stay with us or not, on behalf of the One Manga team, I would like to thank you all for your unwavering support over the years. Through the ups and downs you have stuck with us, and that is what kept us going.

As a certain Porky was fond of saying... That's all folks!

Time for me to go lay down and let this all sink in.

- Zabi

Anyway for your guys that are looking for Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Kenichi weekly scanlation you can check out and for other you can also check out hope this help :)

Tech Blog - Compared to other devices the clock is way too small to pay attention to. Insignificant as it is, it still uses energy and power to function. Thus, clocks can also be switched into eco-friendly and renewable power user.

The Leeds Element Water Powered Clock, as the name implies, pulls its energy from water, and this makes it possible to run in poorly lit rooms deficient in solar energy. It has both a time and date function, but it has no alarm on it, just a basic little clock that tells time and date.

It's a good idea to offer this water powered clock to someone who cares for the environment. There's one problem though. This clock doesn't fill itself up with water. So one has to fill its tube with water every ten days. If you're not good at remembering things, you wouldn't be able to enjoy it's full functionality.

Dreamate Sleep Induce | Gadget Review

Tech Blog -Some people suffer unusual sleeping patterns. And they would do anything just to fix their screwed body clock. Fortunately, there is one gadget that can induce sleeping and be able to bring back the normal sleeping patterns. This is the Dreamate Sleep Inducer.

The Dreamate Sleep Inducer uses accupressure methods to massage the so-called "golden sleeping triangle" pressure point on your left wrist. It's very simple, just use it 30 minutes before bedtime, and this sleep inducer will do the rest. You can see changes in your sleeping habits in just a week's use. But it is strongly recommends to use this gadget for eight weeks before you completely take it out of your system.

Personally, it's better to use this Sleep Inducer, since it relaxes the body and reduces stress. Unlike sleeping pills, you could eventually get addicted to it and make your sleeping habits worse, since they contain barbiturates. You don't have to deal with this gadget forever since it just serves as an aid to have better sleeping habits.

iPhone Pebble Portable Charger Review

Tech Blog - Most people nowadays carry phones with them - to school, to work, to anywhere. And 'anywhere' doesn't guarantee you of having a full battery all the time, neither does it have sockets to cater to the needs of your phone whenever it runs out of juice. We depend on these gadgets in order to be able to communicate with the world. If they run out of batteries, they would become no more than useless. Thus, keeping a portable charger in hand is a necessity.

The Pebble Portable Charger would be the most likely to meet the needs of having a fully charged battery while you're on the go. Measuring only 9.8cm x 7.2cm x 1.8cm, the Pebble Portable Charger can hold upto a whopping 500 mA (milliAmperes) worth of battery. It would take someone around five hours to fully charge the Pebble. Nevertheless, it would be worth the time since this portable charger can fill up an iPhone upto four times its capacity in just over an hour for each time you recharge. Aside from iPhones, the Pebble Portable Charger is compatible with other Apple devices, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and any other devices that can be recharged using a mini USB. Its rubbery finish will assure you that it would be slip-proof from your hands.

Having the Pebble Portable Charger handy all the time eradicates all excuses of having run out of juice along the way. At around $80.00, this portable charger would be very essential to every traveler, and eventually, to everyone.

  • Capacity: 5000mA
  • Battery type: Polymer Li-ion
  • Input: 5V 1000mA
  • Output: 5V 950mA
  • Takes 5 hours to fully charge the Pebble
  • Will charge an empty iPhone in just over an hour

Etymotic HF5 In-Ear Earphones Review

Tech Blog - I just purchase a new in-ear earphones after my old one an Etymotic ER6i earphones cable came loose after 6 years of use, I decided to go with Etymotic HF5 after looking around for several other in-ear earphones including Sleek Audio SA6 and Ultimate Ears, on of the factor for me on choosing Etymotic is due to past experience with the product which impressed the durability of the build the sound quality, anyway here is a short review of the Etymotic HF5.

Packaging: the Etymotic HF5 is packed very well and compact very practical as you can see below.

Build and comfort: The build quality of the HF5 I find it very good, the HF% is made of plastic that is painted like metal, the cord is much thicker than the Etymotic ER6i as can be seen below, the flanges are very surprisingly comfortable, comfortable enough to sleep.

Sound: The sound quality of Etymotic HF5 is very accurate and very good, there is more bass here compared to the Etymotic ER6i, the instrument separation is amazing, the sound isolation is fantastic with this on you will not hear anything around you, In my opinion this is the best and most accurate in-ear earphones on this price range, however this is not an earphone for people that wants a lot of bass.

Accessories: the Etymotic HF5 comes with 3 pair fo flanges, one extra filter, a pouch to put everything in and a small tool for replacing the filter.

In conclusion I highly recommend the Etymotic HF5, I bought mine at Amazon for $121 not including the shipping.

Microsoft Security Essentials Review | Free Antivirus

Tech Blog - Microsoft Security Essentials is a free downloadable antivirus and antispyware from Microsoft that was release last year, features of the Microsoft Security Essential are quick scan, full scan, realtime scanning, auto updates, customized action, customized scan, and scheduled scan, I found the Microsoft Security Essentials to be light and fast, what surprises me the most is that it runs quietly in the background as most antivirus should do, there doesn't seems to be any bloat on the software unlike most of the free antivirus out there, it doesn't try to be what it is not, the instalation f the Microsoft Security Essential fast and easy, configuration and customization is easy to understand, there are very good documentation on the Microsoft Security Essentials website if you need support, I my opinion Microsoft Security Essentials is better than most free antivirus out there such as AVG which doesn't actually get rid of your virus unles you pay for it and it bloated which makes your system slow, if Microsoft Security Essentials is installed and partnered with a good firewall like Agnitum Outpost which is also available free, I think you are very well protected, do note however during installation of the Microsoft Security Essentials it does check for Validity of your Windows installation meaning if your running a bootleg/pirated copy of Windows your out of luck you can refer to the images below regarding the validation screen, Microsoft Security Essentials is available for Windows Vista and Windows 7 32/64 bit users, as well as Windows XP 32bit users, You can get it here
